Grinding your teeth (bruxism)

What is bruxism?

Bruxism is the clinical term for teeth grinding. It is a habit related to chewing, but controlled by your subconscious processes while you are asleep. It is a common sleeping disorder.

Grinding teeth during your sleep can reduce the amount of rejuvenating deep (REM) sleep you get. You may develop headaches and jaw pain. Left untreated, teeth grinding can also lead to significant tooth loss and gum recession.

Somnowell for bruxism

The Somnowell appliance we use to treat bruxism is made from chrome cobalt alloy and is impervious to wear from teeth grinding. The smooth polished chrome surfaces of the Somnowell will allow you to rhythmically move your jaw during sleep without damaging your tooth enamel. It will also provide relief to your jaw joint and facial muscles, and give your gums and soft tissues a chance to heal and rest.
